Do you remember the viral TikTok sleepy girl mocktail from not too long ago? If you don’t, let me catch you up: it’s a mocktail designed to help promote sleep and restfulness. Here are the two key ingredients in it:

Tart cherry juice  – Contains a high concentration of melatonin (the “sleepy” hormone), which may help with both falling and staying asleep (more on this here). Cherry juice also contains polyphenols and vitamin C, which can help with reducing inflammation in the body.

Magnesium bisglycinate – Promotes muscle relaxation and sleep. Most of us are deficient in magnesium, so although you need to check with your doctor before taking this supplement, it’s generally considered safe for most people. Note that there are different types of magnesium: glycinate, malate, threonate, taurate, chloride, citrate, and sulfate – they all have different purposes so if sleep is your goal, make sure you stick to magnesium bisglycinate.

Although Olipop is delish, I am not a big fan of the natural flavors and Stevia in most of their sodas, so I opted for a splash of organic ginger beer, without any natural flavors or extra ingredients. Ginger soothes the stomach and digestive system, so it’s an excellent choice for a nightcap. I also reduced the volume of the original recipe, because I prefer not to drink too much liquid at night to reduce those nighttime bathroom trips. Tart cherry juice also contains a lot of sugar, so there’s no need to go overboard with the volume. I found this amount to be the absolute perfect quench-your-thirst-help-you-sleep nightcap and I hope you enjoy it as much as I have. It’s perfect for dry January as well. Viral TikTok Sleepy Girl Mocktail


1/2 cup tart cherry juice
1 scoop magnesium bisglycinate – I like the Thorne brand
a large splash of ginger beer
optional: a squeeze of lemon and ice, if desired


Add the tart cherry juice to a medium glass (with or without ice) and mix in the magnesium bisglycinate. Add a large splash of ginger beer and a squeeze of lemon (optional) and enjoy!
