If there’s one smoothie I could make every day for the rest of my life, it’s this one! I love it because it contains whole foods, balances carbs (fruits and spinach), protein (see below for my favorite protein powders), and fats (almond butter!) AND contains hormone balancing Maca powder, which has been known to support fertility, reduce anxiety and depression, and provides stress and adrenal support as well. You can make this smoothie with either a frozen banana or frozen organic berries to get it nice and cold. I usually buy frozen organic berries in bulk so that I always have them on hand to use in smoothies and other recipes. Did you know that flash frozen fruits and veggies are just as nutritious as fresh ones? Great for when it’s no longer berry season, but you’re not over them yet – lol! If you’re not sure which fruits and veggies are worth buying organic, check out my post here.

Hormone Balancing Green Protein Smoothie

Ingredients

This recipe makes one serving and is GF, DF, refined sugar free, and vegan.

1/2 banana
A handful of frozen organic blueberries or strawberries. Bonus points if you can find frozen wild blueberries
2 handfuls of organic baby spinach
a full serving of protein powder (recommendations below)
2 tablespoons (eyeball it!) of raw almond butter. I like this brand.
1 teaspoon of Maca root powder. I get mine from Thrive Market.
1 cup of almond milk. I like Malk a lot since it contains no gums, oil, or fillers.
1 pitted date (optional) – I usually omit this, but if you like your smoothies a bit sweeter, this is a great addition.

Add all ingredients to a blender and blend away! Now tell me, isn’t that the best green smoothie ever?

I have two favorite protein powders: Tejari is my absolutely favorite as the ingredients are simply amazing. Four tablespoons of one of these blends will get you 20g of protein (which is what I recommend for each meal). I also love Sakara’s Proteins + Greens super powder. It keeps me satiated for hours. Play around with the different protein powder flavors to see which one you prefer. Keep in mind that depending on which protein powder you use, the color of your smoothie will be altered. If you’re using blueberries, you can also expect a much more purple smoothie. Either way, this smoothie will make you glow.  I really don’t recommend using protein powders with added sugars, natural or artificial flavors, or any other junk. Let’s keep it clean, baby!
